An increase in student numbers at the universities
To meet with the technological capitalist needs
Without funding to cope with facilities.

It started with the students claiming
We’re sick of all your classifications.
Boycott all examinations,
Sexist racist explanations,
Middle class global abomination.
Chiming rhyming sideways bruising
The beaurocratic, technocratic machine
Spewing forth
Capitalism,
Moralism,
Elitism,
Scientific, economic, chauvinistic
Rationalism and logicallism.  Art.

It started with the students deciding to start a war
With leaflets and posters and writing on the wall
Targeting a fascist leader De Gaulle
Who ignored unions and middle men and alienated all.

The state closed the university
And then the economists came
Disguised with a baton and tear gas uniform force.
400 to 2000 to  300 000 students build strong.
Learnt how to deal with tear gas
Learnt how to swim.
Students liberated themselves by blocking themselves in
Using traffic signs, overturned cars
Cobblestones scaffolding fence posts.
Police barred charged bashed smashed.
Mad baboon dogs.
Oppression escalated while
The ministry of education masterbated.
The workers submerged.
The factories shut down.
Railway workers occupied the depots.
50 000 singing.
Art and film propaganda machine.

Judgmental wars on the corporate controlled jobs.
Insurance companies, large shops,
Banks and the print
All saw how do bring down and destroy the black magic.
How direct action pays.
Educated, facilitate, legislative barricades broken.
No negotiation.
The government was impotent and flaccid.
Their law ignored.

The police remained police
Racist, sexist, anti red
But the situation had risen
Right over their brainless heads.
To avoid unpleasant arguments
They hid the uniform of consent.

Doctors and law students heard the call.
Economists’ rhetoric and insignificance.
The machine was trembling and fearing
Honesty intuition creativity and magic.
Exposure.
Standing alone in the Garden of Eden.

France ground to a halt.
No trains, no buses,
No banks, no services, no petrol,
All factories stopped.
No hospitals, no museums
No T.V. service
As journalists walked out and cried censorship
Pacifying
Stupefying
Atomizing
Obedient
Apathetic easily disciplined viewers.

The revolution moved to the middle class.
Doctors architects planners statisticians
Occupied buildings that regulated their profession
Crying misuse of skills and expertise by profiteers,
Money grubber capitalists.
Drain and waste remain.

Imagination takes power
A liberated zone
A space to organize, politicize decoys of perception
Evil against evil.
Games of bluff and double bluff
Eventually people had had enough.
DeGaulle accused
Totalitarianism
Communism
Intimidation
Propaganda
Tyranny
Which would be stopped by force is necessary
But this revolution was not in vain
For the song of 68 remains.
